Television

Sitting alone, the static washes by,

Blissfully unaware of the world outside.

Nature on the TV, society out of frame,

The world falls to chaos, with all of us to blame.

The glass refills, the cigarette in amber blaze,

We are all drawn to violence, like moths to the flame.

There are those of us who are hateful,

Malignant, contempt, and cold with malaise.

And those of us who are ignorant,

Uneducated and Uninformed, all the same.

We try to fight for freedom,

We try to fight the pain,

We try to fight the tyranny,

But we’ve all gone insane.

Though not for lack of trying,

The static with its grains,

We have all been dehumanized,

By the spreading, virulent strain.

We fight our own brothers,

Shed their blood in the streets.

Tear apart our families,

Crush them under our feet.

Push away our loved ones,

We all fear defeat.

But we all end up alone,

Yelling at our TVs.

We have to make an effort,

To rebuild broken bonds,

To sew the seeds of love,

Into our own back lawns.

We all have our problems,

Some deaf, dumb, or disowned,

Some feel too surrounded,

And some feel too alone.

Yet despite all of our struggles,

Hate shall not be our guide,

For then we have forsaken,

All those heroes who have died.

We must not hate the BLACK.

We must not hate the WHITE.

We must not hate the RICH.

We must not hate the POOR.

We must not hate the SINNERS.

We must not hate the SAINTS.

WE are all brothers and sisters,

And must be loved ALL the same.

So before you go to war,

For reasons you cannot explain,

Just think of everyone you know,

Who live through their own daily pain.
